1. What we store and where

By default, your roleplay chats, messages, personas, and sampling presets are stored locally in your browser using IndexedDB. Roleplay preferences are stored locally in browser storage. Saved chat history stays on that browser and device unless conversation sync is enabled in your NanoGPT account. Character cards are stored separately with your account, as described below.

To generate a reply, SillyNano sends your message and the relevant conversation context, character instructions, persona, and memory through NanoGPT to the selected model provider. Automatic memory updates also send the relevant story text to a model. This processing happens even when cloud sync is off. Models and providers may apply their own content restrictions and data-handling policies. The NanoGPT Privacy Policy governs the main service's processing of account information, prompts and responses sent for model generation, technical logs, provider routing, and related API data.

Speech is optional. Dictation sends your recording through NanoGPT to Grok on fal for transcription. Listening sends the selected reply text to MiMo on DeepInfra for speech generation. These providers process the submitted content under their own policies. SillyNano does not save microphone recordings or generated audio to chat sync; a small audio cache stays in memory until you leave the chat. Operational speech metrics include duration, character counts, status, and provider cost, not recordings or spoken text.

Local browser storage is controlled by your browser. Other people who can access your browser profile or device may be able to access that data. Clearing site data may delete local roleplay data that has not been synced.

2. Optional cloud sync

SillyNano uses the sync and encryption settings already saved on your NanoGPT account. If conversation sync is enabled there, SillyNano can sync chats and messages after you sign in; you do not need to enable it again here. Preset/settings sync also covers personas and roleplay preferences. Check the saving indicator and sync settings to see what is enabled.

The protection of synced content depends on your selected encryption mode:

• Passphrase or passkey: content is encrypted in your browser before upload. Keep access to your passphrase or passkey; encrypted data may not be recoverable without it.
• Convenience (server-managed encryption): content is sent to NanoGPT over an encrypted connection and encrypted on the server before storage. NanoGPT infrastructure can decrypt it; this mode is not end-to-end encryption.
• Encryption off: Synced content is stored without sync encryption. Connections to NanoGPT are still encrypted in transit, which is separate from encryption of stored data.

Sync encryption protects saved content according to the mode above. It does not prevent the model provider from processing context sent to generate replies. Account and storage settings, sync metadata, and model requests remain subject to the NanoGPT Privacy Policy.

3. Cookies and authentication

SillyNano limits cookies to those needed for session and authentication functions, including the secure sign-in handoff to and from NanoGPT. These cookies help keep you signed in, complete authentication, and protect the sign-in flow. SillyNano does not use advertising cookies.

4. Character uploads and moderation

Characters you submit, including names, descriptions, instructions, tags, example text, and avatar images, are sent to and stored on the operator's infrastructure, including private cards and imports. A private card is restricted from other users in the app; it is not a local-only or end-to-end encrypted card. Character storage is independent of your conversation sync setting. Content you make public is displayed to other users. Do not upload personal information or images unless you have the rights and valid consents needed to do so.

Private cards that are not API-enabled receive child-safety checks. Public, unlisted, and API-enabled cards receive broader safety checks. These checks may send submitted card text and avatars to external moderation providers. Private chat messages are not submitted to these character-card checks; model providers may apply their own restrictions when generating replies. The Terms still apply to private use.

Submitted characters and avatars may be processed by automated safety systems and reviewed by authorized moderators to enforce the Terms, handle reports, protect users and third parties, and comply with law. We may preserve and disclose relevant information when reasonably necessary for safety, abuse investigations, valid legal process, or other legal obligations.

5. Data deletion and choices

You can delete local chats, personas, presets, and other roleplay data through SillyNano controls or clear SillyNano's site data in your browser. Deleting local browser data does not automatically delete a synced copy or a public character stored on the operator's infrastructure, and deleting a synced copy does not clear every browser automatically.

Manage sync, delete synced data, or request account deletion in your NanoGPT account settings. You can remove characters through the available character controls. Some records may be retained or de-identified as reasonably necessary for security, fraud and abuse prevention, dispute handling, backups, or legal obligations, as described in the NanoGPT Privacy Policy.

6. Product usage measurements

We measure basic actions such as starting and returning to stories, using optional setup, and importing conversations. These event records may be associated with your existing NanoGPT session so we can understand whether people return. They do not include your story text, persona details, character names, searches, or page URLs. Browser action measurements respect the browser’s Do Not Track preference.

We also count completed replies by model to improve recommendations. Those aggregate counters do not store conversation content. Temporary identifiers limit how much one session can contribute to a model’s ranking.
